Job Notice:
Community Engagement Facilitator
An Taibhdhearc is the National Irish Language Theatre. We create, present and support the performing arts, including those of innovation and variety. We do this with and for artists and the Irish Language community across the country and around the world. The organisation is located in a historic building in the centre of Galway City with the following amenities: a theatre with a capacity of 145 seats, a studio space for meetings and rehearsals, offices as well as a café/bar for events and occasions.
Role Overview
An Taibhdhearc seeks a dynamic, experienced, and highly motivated Community Engagement Facilitator. The Community Engagement Facilitator will play a vital role in supporting and promoting An Taibhdhearc’s artistic ambitions; community engagement, facilitating and developing opportunities for young Irish speakers and training opportunities for artists working in the Irish language.
Reporting
The Producer in the Community will report to the Artistic Director working closely with the senior team.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Please note it may also include responding to other engagement opportunities as they develop:
Design and run a youth group
Set up and deliver youth drama workshop weeks at Easter and Halloween
Liaise with the Artistic Director on the one production produced each year within the community/ Gaeltacht areas - delivering any community engagement potential as part of that production (taking part in the productions or in workshops/ Q&As/ panels etc)
Liaise with the Artistic Director and coordinate any school’s engagement/ tours/ workshops as part of the annual programme
Design and develop with the producer a small festival each year celebrating the work of made by the community groups
In collaboration with the producer seek potential partners/funders to support this festival.
Design and deliver a series of training and skills opportunities throughout each year as part of Scil programme
Work with the Bainisteoir Rochtain to deliver wider EDI development opportunities to theatre makers/artists in the Irish speaking communities particularly in under in underrepresented communities
Essential Skills
Fluent Irish speaker with high standard of written Irish
Strong coordination and communication skills
A passion for community engagement and skills development
The ability to inspire and lead on community outreach work and training
At least 4 years previous experience in directing, designing and facilitating a programme of regular drama workshops for young people and community groups
Desirable Skills
Driving licence
Knowledge of community groups locally and nationally
An understanding of funding networks that support community engagements work
Basic budget/admin skills
Employment Terms
Salary: €52,000 pro rata per annum depending on qualifications and experience.
Hours: 9am to 5pm, between Monday and Friday. The Artistic Director is happy to arrange flexible working hour with the successful applicant on the condition that important periods (production and live performances) are well-covered.
• Holidays: 21 days pro rata annually, as well as public holidays.
• Probation Period: 6 months. Pension: Employer participation up to 5% depending on the employee’s contribution.
• Workplaces: An Taibhdhearc, 19 Middle Street, Galway, with possibilities for remote work.
• Start Date: Date to be arranged with the appointee.
It is expected that every staff member completes safety training in Creation, Disability Accessibility, LGBTQ+, and Priority Training for Children. We encourage all to be active in the life of the arts in the organisation.
