A year ago today, sustainable funding was announced for An Taibhdhearc, the National Irish Language Theatre

The Minister of State for the Gaeltacht, Patrick O’Donovan TD, visited An Taibhdhearc on 7 March 2024 and announced an investment package worth €5.78m for the Theatre for the period 2024-2027. This is part of the funding that came with the launch of the Irish Language Arts Strategy on the day.

Dr Siobhán Nic Fhlannchadha, Chair of the Board of An Taibhdhearc, said: “This is a significant decision for Irish language theatre and An Taibhdhearc. The funding is official recognition of the high regard that Irish language theatre deserves. We hope that it will support all Irish language theatre professionals who are receiving this recognition and investment. It will allow us to employ leading staff, full-time, at An Taibhdhearc, to present a wide range of high-quality theatre to the public.”
