Creative Team - An Fathach Leithleasach

  • Muireann Kelly is the Artistic Director of An Taibhdhearc, Amharclann Náisiúnta na Gaeilge. Originally from County Mayo, she studied drama at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Gàidhlig at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, Isle of Skye, Scotland.


    Prior to An Taibhdhearc, she developed and directed Fishamble/Theatre Gu Leòr/Bara Caws’ co-production of ‘Taigh/Tŷ/Teach’ (House) - a large scale, site specific, trilingual piece about the housing crisis. Written and performed in Welsh, Scottish and Irish Gaelic in all three countries, it was also filmed on site and premiered in the Lighthouse Cinema, Dublin in 2024. As a freelance director, she directed for the National Theatre of Scotland and was commissioned by them and Theatre Gu Leòr to co-write her play “Scotties” with playwright Frances Poet.


    As Artistic Director and founder of Scottish company, Theatre Gu Leòr (2013-2023), she developed, commissioned and directed new work in Gàidhlig and other minoritised languages which toured nationally and internationally.

  • Mairéad Ní Chualáin is the Artistic Director of the NoRopes Theatre Company which she founded in 2015. She has directed the following NoRopes shows: WAKE, FLASH WASTED and THE OPEN UPLE. Mairéad has been an independent playwright since 2005 with companies such as Fíbín, An Taibhdhearc, and The Abbey Theatre. She holds a Masters degree in Drama and Theatre Studies from the National University of Ireland, Galway and a Diploma in Acting from the London College of Music. She is currently a Taibhsín artist-in-residence with An Taibhdhearc. In 2018 she was one of the playwrights who participated in the Fuel programme run by the Druid theatre company. Mairéad is a member of the following theatre organisations: The Performing Arts Forum and Theatre for Young Audiences, Ireland and is a member of the Board of Galway Community Circus.

  • Brídín is an actress. She trained at the Gaiety School of Acting and has worked with An Taibhdhearc, Macnas, Axis Ballymun, Project Arts Centre and North Wales Stage. She spent many years on Ros na Rún in the role of Gráinne. She has a keen interest in puppetry and has spent time working with Fíbín and under the direction of the late Pat Bracken. She took part in the DruidFUEL 2023 residency and staged an excerpt from her play ‘An Ceilpedáóir’, and again during the Galway Theatre Festival in 2024 under the direction of Muireann Kelly. She is currently taking part in the Taibhdhearc residency scheme ‘Taibhsín’. In 2023 she undertook the Advanced Diploma in Applied Irish and Translation with Europus, and she also has a postgraduate diploma in translation with Dublin City University. She truly enjoyed her work as she undertook the translation of 'An Fathach Leithleasach’.

  • Saoirse O'Shea is a set designer who works across film, theatre and advertising. She studied production design at IADT Dún Laoghaire, and has worked on many different projects as both a designer and maker. Her theatre credits include Ar an Dé Deiridh (Gliogar), Linda, George and Gillian (Run of The Mill) and Something Different (Tinderbox Theatre). Her film work includes the upcoming feature Everybody Digs Bill Evans (Cowtown and Hot Property Pictures) and SHUSH, I’m Yours and Falling for The Life of Alex Whelan for RTÉ Storyland. She has designed advertisements for well-known brands such as Bewleys, Arnotts and Jameson.

  • Clíodhna is a graduate of the BA in Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies and

    English at University of Galway. Druid Theatre Credits: Costume Designer and Costume Supervisor for The Cavalcaders, Boland: Journey of a Poet, Once Upon a Bridge, On the Outside (as part of DruidGregory); Co-Costume Designer and Costume Supervisor for Macbeth/Riders to the Sea, The House, Druid O’Casey. Other Theatre Credits: Costume Designer for Somnium (Brú Theatre), Ar Ais Arís (Brú Theatre/Galway 2020/GIAF 2021), An Dara Réalt, Yummy Mummy (An Taibhdhearc), Aisling? (Ealaín na Gaeltachta), BAOITE (An Taibhdhearc/Abbey Theatre). Screen credits include: Costume Designer for Calf, Far Calls, Living with a Fairy 2.

  • Sarah Jane is a light­ing designer, whose inter­est in light began as a mem­ber of Dublin Youth Theatre. She col­lab­o­rates with a diverse range of com­pa­nies, work­ing in the­atre, dance, opera and installation. Upcom­ing pro­duc­tions include  Cun­ning Lit­tle Vixen (Irish National Opera) 

    Recent pro­duc­tions include and The Mir­ror Stage (Brokentalkers); Dénoue­ment (Lyric The­atre Belfast); Octo­pus Chil­dren (Thi­sis­pop­baby at Dublin Fringe Fes­ti­val); L’elisir d’amore (Irish National Opera); Our New Girl (Lyric The­atre Belfast); The Bor­row­ers (Gate Theatre).

    She has a BA in Drama and The­atre Stud­ies and a M.Sc in Inter­ac­tive Dig­i­tal Media from Trin­ity Col­lege Dublin. She was a par­tic­i­pant on the Rough Magic Seeds pro­gramme and co-​founder of Will­Fredd The­atre and the Irish Soci­ety of Per­for­mance Design­ers.

  • Denis has previously worked with The Abbey Theatre, The Gate Theatre, Fishamble, Once Off Productions, Rough Magic, CoisCéim, Junk Ensemble, Northlight Theatre, Chicago and Beijing Children’s Art Theatre.

    He has most recently composed for the musical ‘Gold In The Water’ by Shane O’Reilly. Denis was an associate artist with the Abbey in 2008 and was a participant on Rough Magic’s ADVANCE programme in 2012.

    Composition for Film and Television includes the feature films One Night In Millstreet Fastnet Films Older than Ireland Snack box Films, His and Hers Venom Film, The Irish Pub Atom Films and the animation series Will Sliney’s Storytellers Fastnet Films.

    He won Irish Times theatre awards in 2011 and 2019 and was a nominee in 2015.

    He also won best score at the Underground Cinema awards in 2013 and the European short film Biennale in 2005.
