Celia de Fréine is a poet, playwright, and prose writer. She has won multiple Oireachtas awards for her plays, many of which have been brought to theatres. She is currently working alongside An Taibhdhearc to develop and reproduce her play, Cóirín na dTonn, which is recommended as one of the optional texts on the Leaving Certificate syllabus. Set in the West of Ireland as the twentieth century draws to a close, the play sets out to explore the life of Cóirín, a young woman who struggles with her own identity and mental health after the death of her mother.
